Most Common Questions About In-Home Care Services

What is Private Duty In-Home Care?

Think of it as having a personal assistant, but in the comfort of your own home. Choosing in-home care for your loved one is a big decision, and at Assistance Home Care, we want to make the process as easy and stress-free as possible. Private Duty In-Home Care, also known as non-medical home care or personal care, is a service that provides assistance with daily activities such as bathing, dressing, medication reminders and more to elderly individuals or those in need. Our caregivers are highly trained and equipped to provide personalized care and support that aligns with each individual’s specific needs and preferences, making you feel like you have a personal assistant in the comfort of your own home.

How do I know if my loved one needs home care?

It can be difficult to determine if your loved one needs home care. They may be struggling with daily tasks, managing their medication, or maintaining their home, but it can be hard to know if these issues warrant outside assistance. At Assistance Home Care, we understand that this can be an emotional and difficult process. If you’re unsure if your loved one needs home care, we offer a complimentary discovery visit where one of our local Care Manager will meet with you and your loved one, perform an assessment of care needs, make recommendations , and discuss whether our services may be appropriate.

Some signs that may indicate your loved one needs home care include difficulty with activities of daily living (ADLs) such as bathing, dressing, grooming, and toileting; difficulty managing medication; difficulty with meal planning and preparation, difficulty with mobility and transfers, difficulty with maintaining personal hygiene, increased confusion or disorientation, social isolation, and weight loss or malnutrition.

What areas does Assistance Home Care cover?

At Assistance Home Care, we are dedicated to providing care in a familiar and comfortable environment. That’s why we serve the communities of Missouri and Illinois, including South County, St. Louis County, St. Louis City, St. Charles County, Franklin County, and DuPage County. We are happy to provide in-home care services to those living within our service area.

Are all caregivers bonded & insured?

When it comes to the safety and well-being of our clients, we leave nothing to chance. That’s why all of our caregivers are employees of Assistance Home Care and have been thoroughly vetted through a Federal, State, and County criminal history background check and drug screening. Additionally, all of our caregivers are bonded and insured with professional liability, worker’s compensation, and bond insurance to give you peace of mind and the highest level of care.

Will I be able to choose my own caregiver?

We understand that having a say in who comes to your home is important, which is why we make every effort to introduce you to the caregivers who will be providing care in your home. Our local Care Management Team will accommodate any requests you may have, and we encourage you to be as involved as possible in the decision-making process. We want you to feel confident and comfortable with your choice of caregivers.

Are home care services covered by private insurance?

While home care services aren’t typically covered by private insurance, many long-term care insurance policies include benefits for home care, home health aide, or homemaker services that may be reimbursed. Additionally, funds from Veterans Benefits, Reverse Mortgages, Health Savings Accounts, and Flexible Spending Accounts can often be used to pay for home care.

If I change my mind, do I have to keep the service?

At Assistance Home Care, we understand that things can change and there is no long-term commitment required if you choose not to continue with services. Our Service Agreement and all client onboarding forms will be reviewed with you prior to starting in-home care services so that you can make an informed decision.

Why should I choose home care over a nursing home?

Home care services are delivered one-on-one, providing a higher level of quality time and care than a nursing home or facility. Choosing home care over a nursing home can be a more cost-effective option and provides a higher level of quality time and care. Research also indicates that patients recover more quickly and comfortably at home, with significantly less chance of hospital readmission when supported by in-home caregivers.

What if I need to make changes to my schedule?

Life happens, and we get it. If you ever need to make changes to your schedule, our goal is to serve and support both our employees and clients with equal efforts. While changes are possible, it may result in a change of caregivers. We’ll work with you to find a solution that best fits your needs.

What’s the next step?

To get started, we’ll schedule a Discovery Visit or assessment to discuss your needs and preferences and match you with the appropriate team of caregivers. After the initial visit, your Care Manager will discuss the timeline for starting services and any other important details with you. If you have any questions or concerns along the way, please don’t hesitate to reach out to us. We are here to provide the best care and support for you and your loved one.”
